Hover Text Copier ("we", "our", or "the extension") is dedicated to keeping your web browsing experience secure, private, and fast. This Privacy Policy outlines our strict privacy standards.

1. No Personal Data Collection

Hover Text Copier operates primarily locally inside your web browser.

• No Remote Servers: Hover Text Copier does not operate its own servers or telemetry endpoints.
• No Analytics / Tracking: We do not collect analytics, browsing history, IP addresses, or usage metrics for tracking or profiling.
• No Third-Party Tracking Scripts: The extension does not include advertising, analytics, or remote tracking scripts.

2. Local Browser Storage (chrome.storage.local)

The extension uses Chrome's local storage API exclusively on your device to remember your operational preferences:

• Settings: Formatting choices (Plain Text, Markdown, HTML, Source URL), feature switches, and custom regex pattern filters.
• Recent Copy History: Up to 20 of your most recently copied text snippets are saved locally so you can view or re-copy them from the in-page floating toolbar.

All stored data remains strictly on your local machine and can be cleared instantly with one click from the extension UI.

3. Chrome Extension Permissions

• storage: Required to read and save your local preferences and recent clip history.
• Content Scripts: Required to display the selection overlay, copy controls, and keyboard shortcuts on webpages. Webpage content is processed locally by the extension and is not transmitted to our servers.

4. Third-Party AI Integrations

If you choose to use the optional "Send to AI Prompt" feature, Hover Text Copier opens your selected AI service (such as ChatGPT, Gemini, or Claude) and passes the text you selected to that service.

This transfer only occurs when you explicitly choose to send the content. Pressing A only opens the AI prompt window; it does not send your selected text to an AI service by itself.

Hover Text Copier does not make API calls to these AI services, and we do not receive or store the content sent to them.
